Coffee Cat
In this project I was tasked to create a packaging design for my choice of chilled beverage. My favourite beverage is Iced Coffee. I wanted to design a logo which was memorable and clever, so I used the technique of a play on words. Coffee Cat sounds like Copycat. I thought that play on words may provide the basis of an interesting advertising campaign and lent itself to memorable catchphrases. The cat can smell the pleasurable aroma of coffee which lures the customer to buy the drink. I chose a colour palette which was reminiscent of the colour of coffee. The logo had to pop out, and therefore I chose a lighter colour for the packaging design and white to contrast with the darker
background of the logo.
Kefir
My brief was to create a front and rear label for a lactose free probiotic kefir brand. I named the brand “Daisy Kefir”.
I chose a cow theme because the product is milk-based. “Daisy” is name I associated with a contented and attractive cow. I chose a cartoon style – because I felt that this would be attractive to both adults and children. The pink and maroon colours complement each other and when applied to my design of the cow, suggested a cuteness rather than a realistic depiction.
My designs for both front and rear label were placed on a bottle mock-up
for client approval.
Character Magazine

I was tasked with creating a magazine cover, character, and game name, together with a logo design for the gaming company ‘GAMIT.’
Firstly, I invented the character name ‘Trixx Tenebris’ and developed the character’s backstory. Once I had done this, it was easy to imagine what ‘Trixx Tenebris’ would look like, and the title of the game she would appear in. I designed the ‘GAMIT’ logo to incorporate gaming commands such as a ‘plus’ and a ‘down arrow.’ There is also a ‘trigger button’ on the top of the ‘G.’ I used black for the logo because most traditional controllers and keyboards are that colour. The yellow and white text complements and contrasts with the purple background. I created the magazine layout, optimising available space. After the final layout was complete, I placed it on the final magazine mockup to be submitted to the client.
Poly-Art
My brief was to create a low poly
artwork of a portrait.
I chose the skier because I found the monochrome theme interesting. The transformation into a low poly art style would require the averaging of multiple shades of white, grey and black. The skier’s goggles show the reflection of light and suggest images of mountains in the background. The brown reflection of the mountains represents a slight departure from the monochrome theme, increasing its prominence. I created the poster via Adobe photo-shop, and I forwarded the finished product to the client via PNG.
Geographical E-Pub
I was tasked to create an e-pub of three separate articles. I chose to do the layout for National Geographic articles. I was asked to embed working buttons, a working slide show, and a working video within the e-pub. The first step was to design the layout of the articles was to create thumbnails on paper. When designing the layout, I ensured that the text was legible and easy to read, and headings were prominent. I used an already published National Geographic article as a style guide when creating the layout. I used Adobe Photoshop to resize each relevant photo and I then added the photos to each article, breaking up the text in the optimal way. I then added the photo credits. After the article layout was complete, I added functional buttons using Adobe InDesign. Finally, I used a prominent yellow border which reflects the colour scheme of National Geographic. After the articles were complete in Adobe InDesign I exported the articles as an e-pub and opened them on an iPad to ensure the buttons worked.
Lyric Poster
My brief was to create a ‘Type Poster’ of a singer of my choice. I chose Freddy Mercury as his features are unique and prominent. I chose a reference photo of Freddie Mercury which I added to Adobe InDesign. Using the ‘Pen tool’ I created an outline. I then used the ‘Type on Path’ tool to change the outline into a type path. Bohemian Rhapsody is the song that Freddie is most associated with, and thereforeI chose the lyrics of this song. I added these lyrics in the type path and adjusted the type to make it readable. After the outline was finished, I added the inner shapes of the eyebrows, eyes moustache, hair, neck, and arms.I filled these shapes with warped type to make the poster more interesting and give it more volume. I chose white type on black it is easy to read, and the image pops out. I placed the completed image on a mockup of a poster for client approval.
NasClear
My project was to design packaging for Allergy Relief medication. There were three different strengths of this medication, ‘Lite,’ ‘Plus’ and ‘Kids.’ Because the packages contained medication, it was essential that each different strength was immediately recognisable. I therefore chose three quite distinct colours for each strength. I made the Brand Name and the GSK logo prominent for advertising and marketing purposes. I also made the warnings and dosage prominent on the front of the box by using black bolded letters on a white background. I made sure that more detailed instructions were easily readable on the back of the box. After I completed the designs I made a physical mockup of each package, as well as a digital version which is shown on the right.
Charity Cards
I designed a deck of cards for a charitable organisation. This was a preliminary concept, and my brief was limited to designing three individual cards of different suits and the card back and card box. I chose to develop Clubs, Hearts, and the King of Spades. My representation of the suits was based on traditional designs, so that the suits were immediately recognisable. I added a more artistic flare to the designs to make them more interesting. Spades and Clubs are traditionally black. Instead of being the darkest suits, I chose to make them the brightest. Since ‘Orange is the New Black’ these suits became orange. I chose purple for Hearts because this colour contrasted nicely with orange. I moved away from a pictorial representation of a King, using a traditional representation of a crown. Had I done a Queen I would have used a smaller crown or tiara, and a ‘J’ for the Jack. The colour of these ‘pictorial’ images is red, which is a colour associated with royalty. I used a plain design for the back of the cards, with a background colour which drew the eye immediately to the Red Cross logo. The shield on each card which contains the card number is consistent with the Red Cross logo. After designing the cards, I created the layout for each one. I then placed the designs in a mockup to present to the client.
Electric Lilly
I was tasked to create an album cover and merchandising logo fora band called 'Electric Lilly' . The name 'Electric Lilly' made me think of flowers. Using the traditional colours associated with lilies, which are white, yellow, and green, seemed too predictable for a rock band. I chose purple and pink because these colours combined are so vibrant. Because they are pastel, they appear electrifying and psychedelic, which is more appropriate for a band. The logo is less traditional and more abstract. The darker purple is reminiscent of the colour of the Purple Heart Cana Lily, which is another reason I chose this colour. I imagined what the merchandising for the band may look like and created three
mock-ups to provide to the client.
Car Illustation
I was asked to create a life-like digital representation of a brand of car, and create an advertisement for that car. I chose a Mini Cooper as it was an interesting, shaped car. Minis are often painted two colours instead of one. This model allowed me to be a little more adventurous with the colour scheme. I created the body outline, then added the bumpers, grill and windows and the smaller detail such as the lights, car badge and mirrors. This preliminary digital version showed the colour scheme as a solid version of the red and white colour. I applied a free form gradient to each different part of the car to create the illusion of a real car. The wheels were then added using the same process. I did the wheels separately due to their complexity. I then added shadows to ensure that the image looked
life-like. I placed the car in an advertisement created in Adobe Photoshop, and I merged all the elements with Adobe InDesign to create the final concept to show the client.
